Gunmen attacked and kidnapped 60 people in Nigeria, people appealed to the government for help.

Nigerian gunmen have abducted at least 60 people, mostly women, observing the Prophet Muhammad’s birthday in a remote community in northwestern Zamfara state.

Local people were informed about this on Thursday.

Armed gangs are spread in the northwest of the country, where they commit robbery or kidnapping for ransom.

Two people said the gunman on a motorbike arrived in the Magami Tandu community of Kaura Namoda local government area on Wednesday evening and opened fire.

Mawlid is a celebration of the Prophet Muhammad’s birthday, held in the predominantly northern Muslim states of Nigeria from late September to late November.

Murders happen every day.

Abdulkarim Haroona, whose wife has been abducted, said ‘killing or kidnapping happens on a daily basis. It is making us homeless. Please ask the government to take action and get us justice.

19 people died in Zamfara.

Residents said 19 people were killed on Tuesday when gunmen attacked the Ryuji community in Zamfara’s Zurami local government area, which is adjacent to Kaura Namoda.

Islamic extremists attack Mali refugee camp, 11 killed

Authorities said on Thursday that 11 people were killed in an attack by suspected Islamic extremists on a camp outside Gao sheltering people fleeing violence in northern Mali.

Gao’s former mayor Sadou Diallo said the attackers also destroyed the camp’s food stores and stole all livestock.

The United Nations confirmed the attack in a statement. However, the Gao area authorities have not yet been informed about it.
