India Still Not Self-Reliant In Manufacturing Submarines

India still not Self- Reliant in Submarines Carrying Nuclear Weapons. The discussion here is India not self-sufficient in terms of nuclear-attacking submarines.

The Indian Army is ready to fight every challenge amidst intense tension with China in East Ladakh (India-China tension in Ladakh).

Defense experts are even believing that if China’s high-status increases, the country can surround it through the Indian Ocean.

Preparations are also being done in Andaman. However, even after being very powerful in the case of the army, we have not leased our own submarine but leased it from Russia at a very high cost.

Even after the country is endowed with nuclear power and having a wide army, there is some weakness in the Navy. Especially if it comes to defense equipment.

In fact, the country spends the largest part of its total defense budget on the salaries and pensions of the soldiers, so it does not have much money left to invest in other items.

This is the reason that the least money is being spent on the purchase of defense equipment.

According to an estimate, India is spending 25 percent of its total budget on the manufacture and purchase of military equipment.

At the same time Britain, China, and America are ahead in this matter. They are insisting on recruiting soldiers and enriching themselves with weapons and spending on all three branches of the army.

On the other hand, there is more focus on the army in India.

This is the reason why in the case of the Navy, we have not yet been able to produce submarines carrying nuclear weapons.

Instead, the Navy is taking submarines from Russia on the strip for 10 years. Crores of rupees are being spent on this.

In 1988, the first Russian nuclear-powered submarine INS Chakra was taken on a three-year lease. It was a Charlie Class submarine.

However, this deal of the first nuclear submarine was soon canceled due to complications related to the transfer. The second INS Chakra was acquired on lease in 2012 for a period of ten years.

After this, engineers and sailors from the country were sent to Russia so that they could take training to operate the submarine.

In 2019, the Indian Defense Department borrowed the Akula Class 1 submarine from Russia for 10 years.

According to the Eurasian Times, the deal was worth about 3 billion. Russia will be able to deliver this submarine, known as Chakra 3, to the Indian Navy by 2025.

Explain that earlier this year, under the Defense Acquisition Procedure (DAP), the Government of India allowed all three branches of the army, navy, and air force to lease defense equipment, instead of buying it at one go.

It is believed that with this the army will not only become adept at operating that device, but it will also prove the usefulness of that equipment.

Experts believe that this deal is much cheaper than big equipment bought at one go.

However, the Navy has moved towards making its own defense equipment. The Eurasian Times report has explained this in a sequential manner.

According to this, the Navy itself is making about 60 percent of its nuclear submarines.

In the case of Arihant, it is India’s indigenous submarine, which Russia contributed about 40 percent in the making.

INS Arihant is a highly advanced submarine and can attack in a range of up to 700 km. Not only can it strike water with water, but it is capable of targeting any aircraft from underwater.

With the creation of Arihant, India also joined the countries of the world, which can attack nuclear from land, air, and water.

Earlier, the US, UK, France, Russia, and China had this power. On the other hand, the way to take a submarine on lease is not the initiative of India alone, but many countries have been doing so.
