Michelle Flournoy May Be America’s First Woman Defense Minister

Michelle Flournoy may be America’s first woman defense minister, may get responsibility in the Biden government.

After the first female vice-president, the US can also get the first woman defense minister.

Michelle Flournoy may get this responsibility in the government of the country’s newly elected President Joe Biden. If this happens, this will be the first time that a woman will become the Minister of Defense of America.

Five people were Defense Ministers during the tenure of the outgoing President Donald Trump. Recently, Trump had removed Mark Asper from the post.

Christopher Miller, director of the National Counter-Terrorism Center, has been appointed as interim defense minister. Trump and Espar’s relationship had been bad for a long time.

If Michelle Flournoy gets the responsibility to handle the Pentagon, she will face a challenge over budget cuts. Also, the proper involvement of the army in the delivery of the coronavirus vaccine has to be noted.

If Hillary Clinton had become President by winning the election in 2016, Flournoy would have got this responsibility at the same time.

Her name is running among the strongest contenders for joining the Biden cabinet. The 59-year-old woman has previously served the Pentagon.

She was associated with it for the first time in 1990 and was an undersecretary of the Defense for Policy from 2009 to 2012.

Several other people are also in the race for Defense Minister. Former Homeland Security Department chief Jeh Johnson was for a time a strong contender.

But Flournoy has been vocal on US foreign and defense policy, especially in the past year. She is in favor of close international cooperation.

In the meantime, Christopher Miller said that the time had come to recall the US forces stationed overseas. He has said that the war should end, to end the war requires compromise and partnership.

He also said that the US is committed to ending the war against Al Qaeda since 2001 and is on the verge of defeating the terrorist group.
