James Anderson, 1 Wicket Away From 600 Test Wickets

James Anderson, 1 step away from 600 Test wickets. Only 56 overs were played due to rain on the fourth day of the third and final Test match being played between England and Pakistan in Southampton. In which Pakistan scored 100 runs in the second innings for two wickets. However, this increased the wait for England fast bowler James Anderson to complete 600 Test wickets at least one more day.

At the time of stopping the match on the fourth day, Anderson had taken 599 wickets and was one step away from this special achievement. On the fourth day, the game was stopped due to rain and finally came to a halt due to poor lighting. At the end of the day’s play, captain Azhar Ali 29 and Babar Azam were playing for four runs. England had declared the first innings by scoring 583 runs for eight wickets, in response to which Pakistan’s first innings was piled up for just 273 runs.

England got a 310-run lead on a first-inning basis. On Monday, England invited Pakistan to play follow-on. Pakistan openers Shaan Masood (18) and Abid Ali (42) began to play resiliently. However, in the fifth over, a ball from Anderson went behind the wicket with the edge of Masood’s bat, but Jos Buttler failed to catch the catch. However, Masood was dismissed lbw by Stuart Broad. Abid and Azhar added 39 runs for the second wicket. This partnership was broken by Anderson with LBW out to Abid.

Anderson’s 599 Test wickets

With Abid’s wicket, Anderson’s wicket tally increased to 599 and now he is just one wicket away from 600 Test wickets. So far, only three bowlers from Sri Lanka’s Muttiah Muralitharan (800), Australia’s Shane Warne (708) and India’s Anil Kumble (619) have managed to take 600 wickets in Test cricket.
