LeT terrorist Muneeb Ahmed Sheikh killed in the Shopian encounter, was missing since January 2022: Shopian Encounter.
A local Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist has been killed by security forces in an ongoing encounter since Friday night in the Turkwagam area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district.
Other terrorists hiding in the area are feared to be absconding. After the killing of the terrorist, the security forces conducted a search operation in the area.
When it was confirmed that no other terrorist was present there, after finishing the operation, security personnel returned from the encounter site with the body of the terrorist and the weapons recovered.
Confirming the death of one terrorist, the police said that the slain terrorist has been identified as Muneeb Ahmed Sheikh, a resident of Talk Mohalla Shopian.
He joined terrorism in the same year.
In January 2022, his family members lodged a missing report at the local police station. Muneeb had joined Lashkar after the police officer went missing from the house.
Local sources say that the presence of two to three terrorists was reported in the area. Security forces started a search operation in the Turkvagam area on Thursday night itself in search of terrorists.
When the joint team of SOG, Army, and CRPF started the cordon and search operation, the terrorists hiding in the area started firing on them.
Due to darkness, the security forces stopped the operation at night. It is feared that Muneeb stayed there while other terrorists took advantage of the darkness and fled from there.
As soon as the light dawned in the morning, the firing process resumed and the terrorist was killed.
However, the police officials have not confirmed that the terrorists are absconding.
Police said that after the killing of one terrorist, the security forces launched a search operation for hours in the surrounding areas but the presence of any terrorist was not confirmed in the vicinity.
After this, the security forces announced the end of the operation after recovering the body of the terrorist and the weapons recovered from the encounter site.
