Manipal-MIT Campus Of Karnataka Declared As Containment Zone

Manipal-MIT Campus of Karnataka declared as Containment Zone after an increase in Covid-19 cases.

The Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT) campus in Manipal has been declared as a containment zone by the UDP administration after 59 people got the Covid-19 positive test in the last few days.

District Health Officer Dr. Sudhindra Chandra Suda said, ‘Yesterday, Udupi district had 33 test positives for Covid-19, 27 of which were from MIT.

Most of the students who came positive are from other states. The District Health Administration has declared the campus as a Containment Zone.

In a notification issued on Wednesday by the Deputy Commissioner of Udupi and the chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority.

The district administration said that 59 patients have received a coronavirus test positive on campus. The statement said that all are allowed on the campus in MIT campus with proper pass / identification.

In the notification, the director of MIT told the students that the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) administration has decided to conduct all theory classes in online mode and conduct other practical classes later.

Pending final-semester exams of the first semester B.Tech will be rescheduled at a later date. MIT is a constituent unit of MAHE.

He further noted that there has been a sudden increase in Covid cases in the Udupi district including the MIT Manipal campus in the last few days.

In view of this, the district administration of Udupi took some measures to prevent the spread of Covid infection. In which some areas of Manipal, especially the MIT campus, have been banned from entering the students.

The state has recorded an increase in Covid-19 cases in the last two weeks and hence it has been made mandatory for travelers from Maharashtra and Kerala to show a negative COVID-19 report to the state.

Karnataka reported 1,275 new COVID-19 cases and four deaths in the last 24 hours. The state government said that 1 lakh tests are being done here every day.
