Meeting of India with SCO member countries, call for increasing trade and investment: Goyal

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said on Wednesday that the Covid-19 crisis underscored the need for Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member countries to use their economic power to increase trade and investment in the region.

Addressing the meeting of the Trade and Economic Affairs Ministers of the SCO member countries, he also said that continued cooperation between the countries would ensure rapid revival in the economies affected by the epidemic.

“The Covid-19 crisis has underscored the need for SCO member states to use their economic power and explore the possibility of participation so as to promote trade and investment in the region,” Goyal said.

Meeting of India with SCO member countries, Four documents were accepted in the meeting.

This includes statements on the steps to be taken regarding Covid-19, a statement on the multilateral trade system between SCO member states who are members of the World Trade Organization (WTO).

The statements on cooperation on intellectual property rights. The SCO member countries are China, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Pakistan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.

Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Hardeep Singh Puri also addressed the program.
