NIA Court Rejects Bail for Lashkar Handler Abdul Rauf in Drug-Terror Case
NIA Court Rejects Bail: The NIA court has denied bail to Lashkar-e-Taiba handler Abdul Rauf, accused of running a Pakistan-linked drug and arms smuggling network in Jammu and Kashmir. Meanwhile, security forces engaged in an encounter with terrorists in Kishtwar’s Dool area.

The NIA court denied bail to Lashkar-e-Taiba handler Abdul Rauf Badan, accused of running a drug trafficking network in Jammu and Kashmir and financially nurturing terrorism and separatism, saying Rauf faces serious charges and granting bail to such a young person means security for the country. It would be like jeopardizing the future of the generation.
Rauf was booked under the NDPS Act, IPC, and Unlawful Activities Act five years ago and was arrested in August 2022. The court found that the accused smuggled heroin and arms across the border and also collected money to promote terrorist activities in Jammu and Kashmir.

The court found that out of the witnesses produced by the NIA against the accused, the statements of 30 witnesses are yet to be recorded. The accused has important links to Pakistan-based handlers and received large sums of money from Pakistan in exchange for drug and arms smuggling. The accused has also created assets worth crores of rupees.
The NIA court found that if the accused were released on bail at this time, it would affect the investigation of the case and also deal a blow to the efforts to break the network. Therefore, the NIA court rejected the bail application.

An encounter broke out between militants and security forces in the Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday. Security forces had launched a search operation in the Dool area of the hill district after receiving a special tip-off about the presence of terrorists, officials said.

Upon spotting the security search teams, the hiding militants, believed to be two in number, opened fire, following which an encounter broke out.
The Army’s White Knight Corps confirmed the encounter at a post. He said vigilant troops conducting an operation based on intelligence made contact with the militants early Sunday and opened fire.
