At least three people have died in flash floods triggered by the collapse of the Annamayya Project dam in Andhra Pradesh. At the same time, many other people have also been feared to be drowned in the floods.

Official sources said the bursting of the dam caused flash floods in the Cheyeru river, submerging some villages.

A group of devotees who were worshiping at a Shiva temple on the occasion of Kartik Purnima was suddenly caught in the flood and washed away in the Rajampet area.

Three bodies were recovered near Nandaluru, search is on for the rest.

The deluge has been witnessed in the Rayalaseema districts of Chittoor and Cuddapah in the past few years. Due to the low pressure in the Bay of Bengal, rivers and streams are in spate.

The consequence of which is that due to the occurrence of flood situations in the state, life is disturbed. At present, NDRF and SDRF teams are engaged in relief and rescue work.

Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy held a videoconference with the collectors of the rain-hit districts and directed them to take rescue and relief measures.

The rain is not stopping. On heavy rains in many districts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, the IMD said that the heavy rains are a result of the pressure built over the Bay of Bengal.

Following which the India Meteorological Department has issued a flash flood warning for Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Puducherry.
