1182 members of eight tribal organizations in Assam handed over their weapons, signed peace agreement.

A total of 1,182 members of the eight tribal insurgent organizations that signed peace accords with the Center and the Assam government on Thursday handed over their weapons to Chief Minister Himanta Vishwa Sarma.

Representatives of each of the organizations surrendered their weapons in a ceremony here.

Over 200 Weapons Displayed.

The more than 300 weapons handed over by these organizations include AK series rifles, light machine guns and other weapons.

More than 200 weapons were also displayed at the venue. On this occasion, the office bearers of Tribal Welfare and Development Council also took oath.

Ceasefire since 2016.

The council was set up in September last year as part of a peace accord with the central and Assam governments to ensure the rehabilitation of members of tribal organizations living in camps since 2016.
