Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby told reporters in a press briefing on Friday that the US would continue to support Afghan forces, Xinhua news agency reported.

It is time for the people of Afghanistan, the leadership, and the army to unite.

The Pentagon announced on Thursday that three infantry battalions, about 3,000 soldiers, would be deployed to Kabul airport within 48 hours to help US embassy staff and Afghan Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) applicants resist the Taliban attack.

Seeing it can be removed as soon as possible.

Kirby said that some of the Marine infantry battalions are already in Kabul and I expect the bulk of the 3,000 soldiers to be there by the end of this week.

He said an airlift plan is being worked out with Central Command to support the US Transportation Command mission. We intend to move thousands of people per day.

In recent weeks, several Afghan cities and nearly half of the country’s 34 provinces have seen heavy fighting between Afghan forces and Taliban militants.

The Taliban claimed to have captured the other three provincial capitals on Friday. Pul-e-Alam, the capital of Logar province, is about 60 km from Kabul, which has been captured by the Taliban.

The leading media house reported on Friday that US Embassy personnel in Kabul have been instructed to destroy sensitive material and objects such as the embassy’s logo and the American flag under applicable standard procedure to avoid misuse.

President Joe Biden has ordered the US military to end its mission in Afghanistan by the end of this month.
