Prime Minister Narendra Modi today laid the foundation stone of the C-295 transport aircraft manufacturing facility in Vadodara, Gujarat.

Defense Ministry officials said the C-295 transport aircraft for the Indian Air Force will be manufactured by Tata-Airbus.

According to Defense Secretary Armaan Giridhar, apart from manufacturing 40 aircraft, the facility in Vadodara will manufacture additional aircraft for Air Force requirements and exports.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, after laying the foundation stone, said in his address, ‘India today moving forward on this mantra of Make in India, Make for Globe, is taking its potential further.

Now India will also become a major manufacturer of transport aircraft. Today it is being launched in India. And I am seeing the day when the world’s largest passenger aircraft will also be made in India.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi further said, “Today we are taking a big step towards making India the biggest manufacturing hub of the world.

Today India is making its own fighter plane, tank, and submarine. Not only this, medicines and vaccines made in India are also saving the lives of millions of people in the world.

According to Defense Ministry officials, 96 percent of the work that Airbus does at its facility in Spain will be done at the Indian facility and the electronic warfare suite for the aircraft will be done by the public sector Bharat Electronics (BEL).

In Gujarat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also inaugurate two tourist attractions – a Maze Garden and Miyawaki Forest – at Ekta Nagar in Kevadia today.

PM Modi laid the foundation stone of the C-295 Transport Aircraft Manufacturing plant: a Spanish company to supply the first 16 aircraft to India in ‘flying mode’.

The deal for the purchase of 56 C-295 Transport military transport aircraft with Spanish company Airbus Dilrh Paes was finalized on September 24 last year.

At that time it was decided that within 48 months of the signing of the contract, the Spanish company would supply 16 aircraft in flying mode to India.

The remaining 40 aircraft will be manufactured by the Tata consortium in India.

The setting up of a manufacturing plant for military aircraft at Dodra is the second major announcement for Gujarat in the defense sector after the recent five-day DefExpo in Gandhinagar.

Earlier in September, Vedanta Limited had selected Gujarat for its semiconductor project, which was the first major step in a 520 billion joint venture with Foxconn of Taiwan.

C-295 will have this capability.

The C-295 is capable of carrying a 9-day payload of up to 71 soldiers or 44 papers.

It is a highly versatile airlifter aircraft that specializes in take-off and landing from semi-prepared surfaces even in mountainous terrain.

The Defense Secretary said, therefore, it will be deployed in the border areas of India.

For quick response and para ping of troops and operations, a tiered para has been fitted in the aircraft. All 56 aircraft will be fitted with indigenous electronic waveform suits.

The project will be made by public sector company Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), the major buds of detail parts assail and est are to be manufactured in India itself.
