The army should look into the annual confidential report of women officers: Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court on Monday asked the Army to reconsider the issue of women officers with short service commissions.

These women officers have been denied Permanent Commission (PC) in the Army for failing to secure 60 percent marks even after being assessed on the basis of the Unit Assessment Card (UAC) based assessment system.

A bench of Justices DY Chandrachud and AS Bopanna told Additional Solicitor General Sanjay Jain, appearing for the Center and the Army, and senior advocate R. Balasubramaniam.

“Also look into the latest Annual Confidential Reports (ACRs) of women officers after their fifth and 10th years of service.”

The top court is hearing the plea of women officers. These officers say they have been assessed on the basis of a flawed UAC system and have not been given a permanent commission.

“We are not asking to ignore the UAC system but please refer to the latest ACR,” the bench said. If his ACR is extraordinary, then leaving him will not be in the interest of both the army and the country.
