QUAD expressed grief over the death of Shinzo Abe, and vowed to take his legacy to new heights.
The leaders of the Quad (Quadrilateral Security Dialogue) countries have expressed deep sorrow over the assassination of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
In a statement issued on Friday, the White House said, “The heads of state of Australia, India, and the United States are shocked by the tragic killing of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
Prime Minister Abe was a transformational leader for Japan and for Japanese relations with the Quad countries.
According to the White House, Abe played a constructive role in establishing the Quad partnership. Worked tirelessly to advance a shared vision for a free and open Indo-Pacific.
“Our thoughts are with the people of Japan and Prime Minister Kishida at this time of grief,” the statement said.
We will honor the memory of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe by redoubling our efforts toward making the Indo-Pacific region peaceful and prosperous.
Shinzo Abe, 67, was shot dead on Friday in the western Japanese city of Nara while he was delivering an election speech.

He has been identified as a 41-year-old Tetsuya Yamagami, a resident of Nara city, who is said to be a former Navy soldier.
US President Joe Biden spoke to Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and expressed deep grief over the assassination of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

“The President underlined that he and the American people stand with Prime Minister Kishida and the people of Japan in this hour of grief,” the White House statement said.
Joe Biden called for a free and open Indo-Pacific vision and Japan, With the establishment of the Quad meetings of the United States, Australia, and India noted the importance of Shinzo Abe’s legacy.
“The President noted our unwavering belief in the strength of Japan’s democracy, and the two leaders (Kishida and Biden) discussed how to keep Shinzo Abe’s legacy alive,” the White House said.

India and PM Modi also paid tribute to Shinzo Abe.

In honor of the late dignitary Shinzo Abe, the Government of India has decided that there will be one day of state mourning across India on Saturday.
