Bollywood actress Rhea Chakraborty was charge-sheeted by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Wednesday in a drugs case involving Sushant Singh Rajput.
NCB has alleged that late Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s alleged girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty had bought drugs from several other accused including her brother and gave them to Sushant.
The charge sheet filed by the agency names Riya and 34 others as accused in the high-profile probe launched after Sushant Singh’s suicide in 2020.
On Tuesday, the NCB, in its draft charges filed in the narcotics case related to the murder of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, claimed that actress Rhea Chakraborty had taken ganja several times from co-accused, including her brother Shovik, and given it to Rajput.
The NCB filed draft charges against 35 accused in the Special Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) court last month, details of which were made available on Tuesday.
According to the draft charges, all the accused conspired with each other or in a group between March 2020 and December 2020 to distribute, sell and purchase narcotics in “high society and Bollywood”.
The NCB said that the accused had financed drug trafficking within the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and used ganja, charas, cocaine, and other narcotic and psychotropic substances.
According to the draft charges, hence sections 27 and 27A (financing illegal trafficking and harboring criminals) 28 (punishment for attempts to commit offense), and 29 (whoever abets, or is involved in criminal conspiracy) against him.
The charges have been framed under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act, including.
It said, “Accused No. 10 Rhea Chakraborty obtained ganja from accused Samuel Miranda, Shovik, Dipesh Sawant and others and handed it over to late actor Sushant Singh Rajput.”
According to the draft allegations, Riya’s brother Shovik was in regular contact with drug traffickers and had obtained it from co-accused after ordering ganja and charas.
These substances were given to the Rajput.
Filing of draft charges prepares the ground for framing of charges, after which the trial begins. However, before framing the charges, the court will have to first decide the acquittal plea of the accused.
Special Judge V.G. to hear cases related to NDPS Act. Raghuvanshi has fixed July 27 for hearing the matter.
Chakraborty was arrested in this case in September 2020 and a month later the Bombay High Court granted him bail.
The NCB launched an investigation into alleged drug use in the film and television industry following Rajput’s death on June 14, 2020.
