After Jayalalithaa’s death, Sasikala was chosen by the party’s General Council as the party chief.

After this, when she was convicted in the case of disproportionate assets from the court and she had to go to jail, Sasikala handed over the command of Tamil Nadu to her close aide Edappadi Palanisamy.

But later Palanisamy and his ministers together expelled Sasikala from the party. After this, she also fought a legal battle against this expulsion.

The hearing in this matter is still going on. She came out of jail in January 2021. After coming out, she had indicated to return to politics.

But in March, she had announced to stay out of politics. In March 2018, she had also formed a separate party of her own by the name of Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam.

In Jayalalithaa’s life, Sasikala was not only the second most powerful woman in the state but also Jayalalithaa’s strong backbone.

After coming out of jail, Sasikala is trying to play the second innings of politics. The graph of her political life went up very fast and fell very fast.

Sasikala’s husband was a Public Relations Officer in the Government of Tamil Nadu and because of this, she was very close to many collectors of the state.

For this reason, she came close to the Chief Minister of the state MG Ramachandran, and then to Jayalalithaa.

You might find it strange but it is a fact that once Sasikala used to run a video rental and recording shop. She also used to do a video recording of weddings.

Sasikala and Jayalalithaa also met in a party recording of such a party. Gradually, Sasikala came so close to Jayalalithaa that she started living at her own house.

Sasikala used to give her the status of mother and Jayalalithaa used to give her the status of the younger sister.

Her great stature in the party can also be gauged from the fact that she used to play an important role in all political decisions.

She was also accused of trying to kill Jayalalithaa with slow poison in the year 2011. There was also an allegation that Sasikala’s eyes are on the CM’s chair.

After this, she and some of her relatives were thrown out of the party. However, Sasikala was later taken back to the party after apologizing.
