SC Said, Center Is Not Bound To Reveal Sensitive Information

SC Said, Center is not bound to Reveal Sensitive Information. In the Pegasus case, the SC said, the Center is not bound to reveal sensitive information.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday issued notice to the central government seeking a detailed reply on petitions seeking a fair probe into the Pegasus espionage case. 10 days have been given for this.

Also clarified that national security is as important for the court as it is for the government. Its intention is not to know the security details, it is not forcing the government to do so.

The court only wants the government to tell whether Pegasus was used to spy on citizens and eminent people.

On Monday, a brief affidavit was filed by the government in which it was said that the government had nothing to do with the Pegasus case.

It was said that the petitioners have filed the petitions on the basis of conjectures and apprehensions or on the basis of baseless and incomplete media reports.

On this, the top court had asked Solicitor General Tushar Mehta to take instructions from the govt and inform the court whether the government wanted to file a detailed affidavit in the matter.

On Tuesday, Mehta said that the affidavit filed on Monday is sufficient and the matter should be considered on the basis of that

On this, a bench of Chief Justice NV Ramana, Justice Surya Kant, and Justice Anirdha Bose said whether the government does not want to file anything else.

Mehta said that the government has said that it will constitute a committee of experts that will examine the matter and submit its report to the court.

The court can frame guidelines for the same. There is nothing to hide in this case, but there is an issue of national security involved.

This is not a matter of public debate. The petitioners want the government to tell whether Pegasus was used or not, but this cannot be made public in view of national security.

If the government makes it public that it uses certain software, then terrorist organizations will take advantage of it and change their communication settings.

To this, the bench said that he does not want to reveal anything which endangers national security.
