The rapid increase in coronavirus cases in Kerala has raised the concerns of the central government as well as its neighboring states like Tamil Nadu, Karnataka.

Tamil Nadu has imposed some restrictions on those traveling from Kerala as a precaution. Tamil Nadu has made negative RT-PCR certificates mandatory for those coming from Kerala.

The Tamil Nadu health department has said that all passengers coming into the state from Kerala will need a negative RT-PCR report or a complete vaccination certificate up to 72 hours before the journey.

The Tamil Nadu government on August 1 said that the RT-PCR test report or certificate of both doses of vaccine has been made mandatory for people coming from the neighboring state from August 5.

Medical and Family Welfare Minister M Subramaniam told reporters that the concerned district administrations have been directed to increase surveillance.

Apart from this, they have been told that from August 5, they should allow only those coming from Kerala to enter the state, who have the report of RT-PCR test or certificate of taking both doses of the vaccine.

Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramaniam told the news agency that Kerala is reporting more than 20,000 new cases a day and the positivity rate is above 10 percent, our positivity rate is only 1.2 percent.

Naturally, we have to insist on certain restrictions to contain the spread of the virus in Tamil Nadu.

Police personnel has been deployed at Valayar adjoining Palakkad on the borders of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Kaliakkvilai on the border of Thiruvananthapuram in Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu.

Tamil Nadu government is providing RT-PCR tests for passengers from Kerala who do not have a COVID-19 negative certificate and will have to remain in quarantine till the results come the next day.

On Tuesday, 23,676 new cases of corona have been reported in Kerala, after which the total number of infected in the state has increased to 34.49 lakh.

During this period, the death toll from the virus has risen to 17,103 after 148 additional deaths.

On Monday, 13,984 new cases of the corona were registered in the state after registering more than 20,000 cases for six consecutive days.
