Tehreek-e-Taliban Warns Journalists For Defaming Them

Tehreek-e-Taliban warns journalists, said – do not use the words terrorist and extremist.

The banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) warned Pakistani media and journalists against calling them “terrorist organizations”, saying they would be treated as “enemies”.

TTP spokesman Mohammad Khurasani said in a statement released on social media on Monday that his organization is monitoring media reports in which words like ‘terrorist and extremist’ are used for TTP.

“The use of such adjectives for TTP reflects the partisan role of media and journalists,” Dawn newspaper quoted the TTP’s online statement as saying.

Khurasani said, “The use of such an adjective for TTP means that professional media are dishonest in their duty and they will create enemies for themselves.”

Khurasani said that therefore the media should address them as Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan.

The Pakistani Taliban was formed in 2007 and the government listed it as a banned organization after attacks on civilians in August 2008.

The first TTP chief Baitullah Mehsud was killed in a drone strike by the US in 2009.

The Pakistan government, in its National Action Plan of 2014, banned allied groups of the TTP and banned the media from glorifying so-called terrorists.

Many Pakistani journalists have so far been killed in the grip of the government’s fight against terrorism.
