UN expresses concern over violence in Afghanistan, says ceasefire should be unconditional immediately.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres urged Afghanistan’s neighbors and its allies to play their part in peace and its prosperous future in a war-torn country.

Meanwhile, India has announced that its ongoing projects to help the people of Afghanistan will not be affected.

The United Nations expressed deep concern over the rampant violence in Afghanistan and also called for expediting efforts for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire.

He said that progress towards peace will help the development of the entire region and is an important step towards the safe, phased, and dignified return of millions of displaced Afghan civilians.

Gutarais said that he appreciates the government of Afghanistan for its ambitious agenda for development and reforms.

“I urge the neighbors and allies of Afghanistan to take advantage of these opportunities of cooperation and play their part in building a peaceful and prosperous future for Afghanistan,” he said.

He expressed deep concern about the recent violence, especially against students and civilians.

Significantly, India has been included in the list of friends of Afghanistan since the beginning. India has so far set up three billion-dollar projects in Afghanistan.

Projects are underway with help from India in all 34 Afghan provinces. 65 thousand Afghani students are being educated in India.

At least 17 people have been killed and more than 50 injured in two blasts in Bamiyan city of Afghanistan. Bamiyan is one of the most secure provinces of Afghanistan. The dead included civilians and a traffic policeman.

The blast occurred on Tuesday during President Ashraf Ghani’s regional cooperation meeting on Afghanistan. The President has emphasized that strong regional reflexes are necessary to create lasting peace.

Local officials were quoted as saying by Tolo News that there were explosions in the market of Bamiyan city.

The city is located in the middle of Bamiyan Province. No group has claimed responsibility for the blast yet.
