UN Refugee Chief Warns About Humanitarian Crisis In Afghanistan

UN refugee chief warns about Afghanistan, the humanitarian crisis may arise soon. The head of the UN refugee agency has warned of a humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan.

He called on the international community to provide immediate support to Afghanistan to prevent a major humanitarian crisis.

Along with this, the head of the agency has also mentioned that if this is not done then it will affect the whole world.

High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi said in a statement after a three-day visit to the South Asian country that the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan remains dismal.

If public services and the economic collapse in Afghanistan, we could see even more suffering, instability, and displacement, both within and outside the country, he said on Wednesday.

Therefore the international community must engage with Afghanistan and make a global effort to prevent a much greater humanitarian crisis.

Even before the Taliban came to power last month, Grundy warned that more than 18 million Afghans, or about half the population, would need humanitarian aid.

More than 3.5 million Afghans have already been displaced in the country battling drought and the COVID-19 pandemic.

Poverty and hunger have increased in the country since the Taliban took over.

He had said that a large number of Afghan people have tried to cross the border to other countries, but if the situation in the country gets worse, the situation may change.

At the same time, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres told an international aid conference this week that Afghan citizens are facing “probably their most dangerous times”.

At the conference, donors promised an allocation of about Rs 147 crore to help Afghanistan. During this, Guterres said, the people of Afghanistan need a lifeline.

After decades of fighting, trouble, and insecurity, Afghans are facing perhaps the greatest crisis they have ever faced.
