Indiscriminate drug smuggling from across the border, 53 incidents of drone dropping in Punjab in 3 years.
Drones are being used to smuggle anti-national elements and drugs from across the border. Minister of State for Home Nisith Pramanik replied in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.
He told the Lok Sabha that in the last three years and till June 30, 2023, 53 incidents of recovery of drones involved in arms/narcotics smuggling have been detected.
Minister of State Nisith Pramanik said that several steps have been taken by the government in this regard.
Effective control of the borders is being carried out by the BSF by round the clock surveillance of the border, such as patrolling, blockade, monitoring of observation posts along the International Border.
Border flood lights have been installed along the border security fence to illuminate the area during dark.
It also includes strengthening the intelligence network and coordination with other security agencies.
Vehicles fitted with CCTV/PTZ cameras, IR sensors and infrared alarms and additional specialized surveillance equipment and integrated surveillance technology were deployed.
A command and control system was also established along the international border.
Anti-drone systems deployed.
Anti-drone systems have been deployed in the border areas of Punjab to deal with drone threats.
In addition, an Anti-Rogue Drone SOP has been prepared and circulated to the field units. All these are also being followed properly.
