Shock To Bengal Government In Supreme Court, The Petition Filed Against Calcutta HC Order

Shock to Bengal government in Supreme Court, the petition filed against Calcutta HC order in Ram Navami violence case.

The West Bengal government has once again suffered a setback in the Supreme Court.

The court on Monday declined to entertain the state government’s plea challenging the Calcutta High Court order handing over the probe into incidents of violence during Ram Navami celebrations in the state to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

A bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Mishra said that we are not inclined to consider the ‘Special Leave Petition’ (SLP).

Politically motivated PIL.

The West Bengal government had criticized the High Court’s order transferring the probe in the case to the NIA, saying no explosives were used.

Also, on behalf of the state government, it was said that the directions of the court were passed on a public interest litigation filed by politically motivated opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari.

NIA will investigate the violence.

The Calcutta High Court had ordered the NIA to investigate the incidents of violence during and after Ram Navami celebrations at Shibpur in Howrah and Rishra in Hooghly districts on April 27.

The court passed the order on a PIL filed by Suvendu Adhikari and three other petitions seeking an NIA probe into the violence at the two places.
