Voting For Four Legislative Council Seats In Karnataka Continues

Voting for four Legislative Council seats in Karnataka continues, counting of votes to be held on November 2.

In the midst of the COVID-19 epidemic, Karnataka is voting for four Legislative Council seats on Wednesday.

MLC elections are being held for Karnataka South-East Graduate, Karnataka West Graduate, Karnataka North-East Teacher, and Bangalore Teacher Constituencies.

RC Reddy Thupalli, SV Shankannur, Sharanappa Mattur, and Puttanna were members from these seats respectively.

Polling has started at 8 am, which will conclude by 5 pm. At the same time, the votes will be counted on 2 November. Forty candidates are trying their luck in the election.

There are 2.35 lakh voters in these four constituencies. This time the security at polling stations is high. Already Section 144 of CrPC has been implemented around the booth.

The Election Commission has directed the Returning Officers to ensure that the face masks and physical distances are followed by the employees as well as the voters.

Following the guidelines, hand sanitizers and thermal screening have been arranged at all booths. Medical teams are also stationed around polling stations.

The election is important for the BJP as the state legislative council lacks a majority to pass important bills for the party.

The BJP government could not pass the Agriculture Bill and Labor Reform Amendment Bill in the recently held legislative session as it could not pass the Upper House despite being passed in the Legislative Assembly.

The council with 75 members has 28 members of Congress, 27 members of BJP, Janata Dal (Secular) – 14 members, one independent, one president, and four vacant seats.

Chidanand M Gowda, BJP, Ramesh Babu, and JD (S) have fielded RC Reddy Thupalli from the South Eastern Graduates constituency.

There is a contest between BJP’s SV Shankanoor and Congress’s RM Kuberappa from Karnataka West Graduates constituency.

In Karnataka North-East Teacher Constituency, BJP’s Shashi Ji Namoshi is contesting against Congress’ Sharanappa Mattur and JD (S) T Purple.

From Bangalore Teachers Constituency, BJP has fielded Puttanna, Congress candidate Praveen Peter and JD (S) AP Ranganathan.
