WHO Chief Scientist-Emphasis Is On Making Vaccines

WHO Chief Scientist-Emphasis Is On Making Vaccines. WHO Chief Scientist says it will take a long time to develop herd immunity in a natural way, so the emphasis is on making vaccines. It has been a long time since the whole world has been hit by COVID-19.

Even now, it cannot be said when the world will get rid of this deadly virus. However, the World Health Organization Secretary-General Tadross has said that the virus will be killed sooner than the deadly Spanish flu. Significantly, it took two years for the Spanish flu to end.

In such a situation, the entire emphasis of all the scientists of the world is to make an effective vaccine to deal with this virus, while the second emphasis is on increasing and developing herd immunity against it. In this regard, the World Health Organization has started a complete series called Sciencein5.

In this series, the World Health Organization’s leading scientific doctor, Soumya Swaminathan, is answering some specific questions related to immunity. These questions are those which are arising in the mind of a common man.

In response to a question on herd immunity, he said that after the development of herd immunity, it is not necessary to protect everyone from the risk of viruses. According to him, measles is a disease whose effective vaccine is available. In such a situation, about 95 percent of children will be given this medicine to develop herd immunity against this disease.

In such a situation, even if 5 percent of the children will be deprived of it, they will not affect others, because they will be able to protect other children as well. Herd immunity acts as a barrier that breaks the link between viruses. After it is developed, it can be avoided to protect everyone at any place because they themselves fall under the scope of its protective shell.

On the relationship between COVID and Herd immunity, Dr. Soumya said that the SARS-CoV-2 Virus is quite fatal. To break the link of this virus, it is necessary to have a herd immunity in 60-70% of people. Only then it will be possible to break its link. But if it is left to grow naturally then it will take a very long time. In such a situation, we will lose many people.

This is the reason why it cannot be made in a natural way. Therefore, there is more emphasis on making a vaccine to eliminate this virus. He said that through vaccines we can succeed and people can be saved from it. They also say that there is no better option at the moment. As part of the measures to save people until the vaccine, Dr. Soumya said that until this happens, people will have to take full precautions.

They have to avoid going to crowded places. Applying a mask has to be included in your essential habit. The hands have to be washed once in a while and will have to keep a distance from each other. Apart from this, more testing will have to be done and they will have to be treated. Those who suffer from its infection will have to isolate and quarantine themselves. By adopting all these measures, we can save ourselves and other people.
