ED Files Money Laundering Case In Elgar Parishad case

ED files money laundering case in Elgar Parishad case, the court said – if money is received from crime, then this investigation is necessary.

The ED has registered a case of money laundering in the Elgar Parishad and Bhima Koregaon violence cases.

Along with this, permission was also granted to record the statement of accused lawyer Surendra Gadling in the money laundering case.

Special Court Judge Rajesh J. Kataria said that if money has been received from the crime then it is a matter of investigation. Since the complaint has been filed, Gadling’s statement can be taken.

Gadling has been in judicial custody since 2018.

Gadling has been in judicial custody since 2018 following his arrest in the Elgar Parishad case. The ED registered the case last year on the basis of a First Information Report filed by the NIA in this case.

The ED told the court that Gadling is the main accused in the case. She wants to record his statement.

The probe agency claimed that Gadling was an active member of the CPM (Maoist) and is suspected of being involved in raising and distributing funds for the banned organization.

On this, the court allowed the ED to record the statement of Gadling, lodged in the local Taloja jail, from August 17 to 19.

Gadling and several other activists have been arrested in connection with the Elgar Parishad violence. The matter pertains to a conference of Elgar Parishad in Pune on December 31, 2017.

The conference was supported by the Maoists. The provocative speeches there led to violence the very next day.

The NIA has claimed that on December 31, 2017, speakers at the Elgar Parishad event organized by prominent CPI (Maoist) outfits in Pune incited violence at Bhima Koregaon the next day in which one person was killed and several others were injured.
