ED sent notice to separatist leader Geelani to deposit 14 lakhs.

The Enforcement Directorate on Wednesday issued a demand notice to Kashmir’s hardline separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani to deposit Rs 14 lakh.

They have to deposit this amount as a penalty under the Foreign Exchange Management Act. They have been given 10 days for this.

Relevant sources said that this penalty was imposed on Syed Ali Shah Geelani in 2019, but he has not deposited it to date. Hence notice has been issued.

ED sent notice to separatist leader: The notice issued by the ED to the radical leader said that the order passed by the co-director under Order No: ADJ/02/SRZO/2019/AD-NG, dated: 20 March 2019, under Section 13(1) of the FEMA.

According to this, a penalty of Rs 14.40 lakh has been imposed. As per the records of this office, this amount of penalty has not been deposited to date.

Therefore you are hereby informed that you have to deposit this amount within 10 days from the date of receipt of demand notice.

You should submit it through demand draft in favor of Pay and Accounts Officer, Pay and Accounts Office, Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance, Government of India.

Failure to do so will result in legal action being taken against you under Section 14 and 14A of the Foreign Exchange Management Act, 1999.

The notice states that if any court/ tribunal/ authority has issued a stay order on the penalty imposed under the Foreign Exchange Management Act.

A copy of the same shall be submitted to the Enforcement Directorate’s office within 10 days of the receipt of the demand notice.
