India’s Security Will Be Maintained Borders And ‘Neighborhood’

India’s security will be maintained not only on the borders but also in the ‘extended neighborhood’: General Rawat. Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat said on Saturday that India’s security was maintained not only on the northern and western borders but also on the strategic location of “extended neighborhood” in the emerging defense scenario.

He said that India attaches importance to its emerging relations with America and is strengthening its traditional relations with Russia. The country shares a mature and strong defense and security system with these two powers.

General Rawat while addressing a seminar on Defence Export, while referring to the proposed reforms in the military structure, said that the CDS and the “theater commander” “jointly” “unity of command ” ‘And service headquarters and “associated commanders” play a key role in the integrated effort.

India is working on setting up a number of theater commands under a major reform in the military sector, which will integrate some of the commands of all the three wings of the army so that the future security challenges facing the country (Future security challenges) to be dealt with effectively.

Each theater command will consist of units of the Army, Navy, and Air Force and they will all act as a unit headed by an expedition commander in view of security challenges in a specific geographic region. The government-appointed General Rawat as India’s first Chief of Defense Staff on 31 December last year to coordinate the three parts of the army.

Modernization in line with the changing global environment and focus on resources

While talking about the regional defense scenario, Rawat mentioned the key aspects of India’s security doctrine. In this context, he referred to the International Border (IB) and the Line of Control (LoC) with Pakistan and the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China.

“In the emerging security scenario, India’s security will not only be maintained at IB, LOC or LAC but also at the strategic location of the” extended neighborhood “, he said.” India has been strengthening its defence and security ties with several nations in its extended neighborhood such as Indonesia, Singapore, and several countries in the Gulf region for the last few years.

General Rawat said that strong dialogue between the CDS, COSC (Chairman of the Chiefs of Staff Committee) and the Political Executive (Cabinet Committee on Security Affairs) should ensure single-point military advice, strategic direction, and optimum utilization of resources.

On the modernization of the Indian Armed Forces, he said that this is in line with the changing global security environment and focuses on the full utilization of resources. General Rawat said, “In this era of multidisciplinary technology, we must continuously focus on innovations and modern technological solutions, to keep ourselves ahead of the enemies.”
