The administration ended his detention in November 2019 but he did not leave his house. He and his supporters have reportedly claimed that he has been kept under house arrest, so he is not going to the Jamia Masjid either.

In December 2019, the police also issued a statement claiming that Mirwaiz Maulvi Umar Farooq was not banned. Despite this, Mirwaiz did not come out of the house.

Arguing the presence of security vehicles outside his house, he had said that the claim of removal of detention is just a pretense.

Many people in Kashmir had said that they are shying away from facing people in the changed circumstances after Mirwaiz Maulvi Omar Farooq accused of house arrest.

He used to claim that the entire Kashmir is against Hindustan and with the Hurriyat. He used to show people’s dream of independence.

After what happened on 5 August 2019 and the Kashmiri Awam adopted the attitude, it was difficult for Mirwaiz Maulvi Umar Farooq and Company to hide their faces.

Therefore, he shied away from going to Jamia Masjid or going to any public place in Kashmir. However, during the last year and a half, he has reportedly made two trips outside Kashmir.

In July last year and thereafter in August, the administration officially placed Mirwaiz Maulvi Umar Farooq under house arrest for a few days.

In November, he was placed under house arrest as a precautionary measure in the wake of the DDC elections in Jammu and Kashmir.

A senior official of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir Administration said that the decision to remove the detention of Mirwaiz Maulvi Umar Farooq was taken on Sunday.

It was earlier discussed that he would be released on Wednesday morning and he would go to attend a seminar. However, this did not happen and he was released at around 1.15 pm this afternoon.

All additional security personnel and their vehicles stationed outside his house were removed. Along with this, the blockers placed on the road leading to his house were also removed.

Only a temporary blocker and only those policemen who were deployed in the name of security outside them are kept under normal circumstances.

Mirwaiz Maulvi Umar Farooq will now also visit the historic Jamia Masjid on Friday to perform Namaz-e-Jumma. In the Jamia Masjid itself.
