Rani Rampal Created History,Will Get Khel Ratna Award

Rani Rampal created history, for the first time any woman hockey player will get Khel Ratna. This is going to be the first time in history when an Indian woman hockey player will be awarded the Khel Ratna Award, the highest honor of India’s sports world. Rani Rampal, captain of the Indian women’s hockey team, has become the player who created this history.

The reason for giving him this honor has been his outstanding performance as a captain and player. The Indian team led by Rani Rampal registered a historic win in the Women’s Asian Cup 2017 and won a silver medal in the Asian Games in 2018. Last year India won the FIH Series Finals, which was a qualifier for the Tokyo Olympics.

Rani played a key role and scored the decisive goal, helping India qualify for the Tokyo Olympics. He was voted the best player of the tournament. Not only this but the Indian women’s team meanwhile also reached its best ninth ranking. Rani, who has played 241 matches so far, has scored 118 goals. This time a total of three women, including Rani, will be given the Khel Ratna Award.

Earlier, a total of 14 women have received this award. In this way, the number of women players will now be 17 to get this award. However, Rani is the first female hockey player to be awarded the Khel Ratna and the third hockey player overall. Among the hockey players, Dhanraj Pillai (1999-2000) and Sardar Singh (2017) have received this award before Rani.

The year 2020 is no doubt proving to be good for the entire world as well as the sports world due to Coronavirus, but this year is becoming very memorable for the queen. Rani became the first hockey player in the world to win the prestigious ‘World Games Athlete of the Year’ award on 30 January earlier this year. Earlier this year, he was also honored with the Padma Shri award.

Came from an ordinary family

Born on December 4, 1994, Rani comes from a very simple family. His father used to run tanga and sell bricks to run the house. His raw house was flooded during rainy days. Rani started playing hockey at the age of six. He once told that he had grown up in a place where women and girls are kept in the walls of the house.

So when he expressed his desire to play hockey, parents and relatives did not cooperate. He felt that a career in sports could not be made, and not for girls at all. Rani somehow persuaded the parents to play hockey, but their relatives used to taunt. Now the same people pat him on the back and come to congratulate him on his return.

Coach Baldev supported

If anyone stood by him during this difficult time, it was his coach Sardar Baldev Singh. Rani started his training at Shahabad Hockey Academy under the supervision of Baldev Singh, who was awarded the Guru Dronacharya Award. It was Baldev who bought a hockey kit for the queen, bought shoes, and helped her in every way. While she was taking training in Chandigarh, then coach Baldev arranged for her stay at her own home.

Along with his wife, he also took responsibility for the good food of the queen. Rani Rampal participated in the World Cup as the youngest Indian player at just 15 years old. She was the tournament’s top field goal scorer, for which she was voted the tournament’s best young player.
