The ship was envisioned by the then Chief Hydrographer, Rear Admiral FL Fraser, who also designed and built this hydrographic survey vessel in India.

Let us inform you that after the design was finalized by the Naval Headquarters, the construction of this ship started in the year 1978 at GRSE Kolkata by laying the keel.

The ship was commissioned into the Indian Navy on 26 February 1981 by Vice Admiral MK Roy, the then Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief Eastern Naval Command (ENC).

According to media reports, the ship has been the alma-mater since its commissioning. It has also played a very important role in laying the foundation for complete hydrographic coverage of peninsular waters.

Designing the ship was a major success, which paved the way for recent modifications to all survey ships of the Indian Navy.

According to the report, while in service, the ship has carried out about 200 major hydrographic surveys and played a role in several minor surveys along the east-west coasts of the country, the Andaman Sea, and also in neighboring countries.

Private airlines like Vistara and Air Asia India have so far administered the first dose of vaccine to 99 and 96 percent of their eligible personnel, respectively.

Meanwhile, Air India has started immunization of its employees from May 15 after a delay due to the non-availability of vaccines.
