United States To Sell $ 1.8 Billion Arms To Taiwan

United States to sell $ 1.8 billion arms to Taiwan amid tension with China. Amid continued tensions with China.

The United States has approved the potential sale of three weapon systems to Taiwan, including missiles and artillery, which may be worth a total of USD 1.8 billion.

At the same time, China has also started strengthening its strategic preparedness in view of Taiwan’s activism. People’s Liberation Army activities have intensified on the coast of Southeast and state-of-the-art missiles are being deployed.

According to a formal notification to Congress by the State Department, the deal also has 11 truck-based rocket launchers made by Lockheed Martin Corp, called the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS).

Its estimated cost is around 400 million dollars. Also included are the 135 AGM-84H Standoff Land Attack Missile Expanded Response (SLAM-ER) made by Boeing, which is estimated at $ 1 billion.

The US decision came at a time when tensions between China and Taiwan have increased. China is repeatedly threatening to attack Taiwan and adopting an aggressive policy to intimidate the self-governing island.

On the other hand, relations between China and the US have deteriorated in recent times due to various reasons including the Indo-Pacific region and the Coronavirus epidemic.

For decades the Chinese government has been asserting its authority over Taiwan. However, Taiwan is not recognized by the United Nations, despite its Taiwan government maintaining relations with the US, which China does not like.

The US has made many serious allegations against Iran. US officials said at a press conference on Tuesday night that Iran is responsible for threatening American voters and unrest in several states.

At the same time, Iran and Moscow have also obtained some voter registration data with the aim of interfering in the elections.

US Intelligence Department Director John Ratcliffe and FBI Director Chris Ray said the US would impose fines on countries that interfered in the 2020 US election.

He said that despite this action of Iran and Russia, the Americans have confidence that their opinion is safe. Ratcliffe said, “This is a desperate action by desperate opponents.
