UN’s official comment on violence against women in India, the Ministry of External Affairs said inappropriate and unnecessary.

The United Nations Resident Coordinator’s statement on recent cases of violence against women in India was termed as inappropriate by the Ministry of External Affairs on Monday.

The Ministry of External Affairs criticized the UN’s official comment on recent cases of violence against women in India and said that the investigation process was still going on.

Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesman Anurag Shrivastava told the United Nations Resident Coordinator in India, some inappropriate comments have been made by the United Nations Resident Coordinator about some recent cases of violence against women.

The Resident Coordinator of the United Nations in India should be aware of it. The government has taken these matters very seriously.

He further stated that since the investigation process is still ongoing, any unnecessary comments by an outside agency are avoided.

The constitution guarantees equality for all citizens of India. As a democracy, we have a time-tested record of providing justice to all.

Earlier today, the United Nations in India made a statement regarding alleged sexual harassment cases in Hathras and Balrampur areas of Uttar Pradesh in India.

The Editors Guild of India has criticized the Yogi Adityanath government, accusing Uttar Pradesh law enforcement agencies of preventing journalists from reporting to and around Hathras.

In a statement, the guild said that not allowing journalists to go to the scene and tapping their conversation over the phone is a hindrance to media work. It demanded the state government create a situation in Hathras that does not hinder journalists’ work.

“We condemn the way Uttar Pradesh’s law enforcement agencies prevented journalists from reporting,” the guild said. Journalists’ tapes were leaked and select portions were leaked. This is unfortunate.
