Varanasi Gyanvapi Case: The suit was filed 32 years ago, the disputed site is part of the Swayambhu Vishweshwar Jyotirlinga temple.

On 15 October 1991, Pt. Somnath Vyas, Dr. Ramrang Sharma, and others had filed a suit in the Court of Civil Judges (Sidi.)

Varanasi regarding the construction of a new temple in Gyanvapi and the right of worship to Hindus. It said that the disputed site is part of the Swayambhu Vishweshwar Jyotirlinga temple.

Hindus have the right to perform worship, darshan worship, and other religious work at the said place. The matter was objected to by Anjuman Inazaniya Masajid.

It was argued that this suit is not maintainable as the place of worship is barred by Section-4 of the Special Provisions Act, 1991.

Whereas it was argued on behalf of the self-styled godman Vishweshwar Jyotirlinga that on August 15, 1947, the Gyanvapi disputed site had the form of a temple.

Beneath it are the remains of a 15th-century temple. The inner shape of the structure is that of a temple and three domes have been made on top.

He ordered for amendment of the relief sought in the claim regarding obstruction of the said suit by Section 4 of the Place of Worship Special Provisions Act, and the claim was ordered to be pursued with the amendment.

Against this, the civil revision was filed by both the parties in the Hon’ble District Judge, Varanasi.

It cannot be said that the religious nature of the disputed site is that of a temple or a mosque. The court ordered the compilation of detailed evidence of the entire complex.

Against this order, two petitions were filed in the High Court in the year 1998 on behalf of Anjuman Inazaniya Masajid and UP Sunni Waqf Board, Lucknow.

Varanasi Gyanvapi Case: Like Ayodhya, the court has given the order for a complete survey.

After the death of Pt. Somnath Vyas on March 7, 2000, the court-appointed former District Government Advocate (Civil) Vijay Shankar Rastogi as the litigant on October 11, 2018, for his replacement.

During the hearing, litigant friend Vijay Shankar Rastogi appealed to the court to conduct a survey of the Gyanvapi complex and the alleged disputed site with radar technology from ASI

This was approved by the court of Civil Judge (Cd. Fastrack) Ashutosh Tiwari on April 8, 2021.

Against this order, a writ petition has been filed in the High Court on behalf of the Sunni Central Waqf Board and Anjuman Inazaniya Masajid. At present, the hearing in the said case is to be held on May 10.
