Anil Deshmukh Arrested In Money Laundering Case

Anil Deshmukh arrested in a money laundering case, ED took action after 12 hours of interrogation.

Former Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh, who is facing money laundering charges, was arrested late Monday night by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) after questioning him for over 12 hours.

Deshmukh along with his lawyer appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) at 11.50 a.m. on Monday and their interrogation went on till after midnight.

Deshmukh’s lawyer Inderpal Singh said, “We have cooperated in the investigation of the matter related to the case. We will oppose his remand when he is produced in court today.

Let us inform you that at around 9 am on Monday morning, Joint Director of Enforcement Directorate Satyavrat Kumar was seen going to the office along with some other officers.

The Bombay High Court had directed a CBI inquiry against Deshmukh after former Mumbai Police Commissioner Parambir Singh filed a complaint against Deshmukh for recovery of Rs 100 crore per month through police officers.

It was only after this order came that the CBI started the preliminary inquiry against Deshmukh and he had to resign from the post of Home Minister of Maharashtra.

The ED has so far summoned Deshmukh five times to appear for questioning. Last week, the Bombay High Court had refused to grant him relief.

Before appearing before the ED on Monday, Deshmukh released a video and letter on his Twitter handle saying that although the High Court has given me the liberty to approach the special court under constitutional right.

But still I will go to the ED office today and cooperate in the investigation.

Let us tell you that on Friday itself, the High Court has dismissed his petition, in which he had sought quashing of the summons being sent by the ED.

A division bench of Justices Nitin Jamadar and Sarang Kotwal had made it clear that Deshmukh’s plea was not eligible for an order restraining the CBI and the ED from taking coercive action against him.

However, the court had given him some relief and said that if Deshmukh fears his arrest, then he can go to the appropriate court like a common man to avoid it.

Before appearing before the ED, Deshmukh also raised the question that Parambir Singh’s complaint was being investigated by him.

He is appearing before the ED to cooperate in this. But where is the complainant Parambir Singh? It is heard that they have fled abroad.
