Union Home Minister Amit Shah will chair a high-level meeting on Friday to take stock of the preparations and security for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra in Jammu and Kashmir.

Sources gave this information. The 62-day annual pilgrimage to the holy cave shrine of Amarnath, located at an altitude of 3,880 meters in the south Kashmir Himalayas, will begin on July 1 and continue till August 31.

Sources said the home minister will review preparations for the Amarnath Yatra with top officials of the central government and the Jammu and Kashmir administrations.

He said that Shah would also take stock of the plans being prepared to ensure a strong secretary for the pilgrimage.

In fact, the administration has received intelligence that Pakistan-based terrorist organizations may disrupt the pilgrimage or may plan an attack.

Security forces will be deployed during the pilgrimage.

It has been decided to further strengthen the security on the basis of intelligence. Adequate security forces will be deployed during the Amarnath Yatra.

All stakeholders of the pilgrimage are expected to participate in the meeting. All issues related to the arrangements being made for the yatra will be discussed in the meeting.

Sources said a lot of snow has been found on both the Baltal and Pahalgam routes leading to the holy cave.
