India Won The Election Of The UN ECOSOC Body

India won the election of the UN ECOSOC body by defeating China, became a member. India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations TS Thirumurthy said India has been elected as a member of the Commission of Women of the United Nations, an organization of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).

Writing on Twitter, Tirumurthy said that India won a seat in the prestigious ECOSOC body. India was elected a member of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW). This is an important support of our commitment to promote gender equality and women empowerment in all our endeavors.

We thank Members call for their support. India, Afghanistan, and China contested for the position of Women’s Commission. Even as India and Afghanistan won the poll among 54 members, China could not cross the halfway mark.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the famous Beijing World Conference on Women (1995). India will be a member of the United Nations commission on women’s status for four years, 2021 to 25. China confirmed the arrest of 12 Hong Kong people. China said that all of them were trying to go to Taiwan illegally by boat last month.

At the same time, China’s foreign ministry called the group separatist. This group of 12 people, ranging in age from 16 to 33 years, have been arrested under Chinese law for attempting to cross the border illegally.  They were detained on August 23, according to a statement released on Sunday from the Public Security Bureau in the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen.

According to the South China Morning Post, the Foreign Ministry in Beijing has announced that there is a group of young fugitives, some of whom were involved in last year’s anti-government protests. These people are among the elements trying to separate Hong Kong from China.
